Easy Halloween Craft Idea
Salt Ghost Halloween craft for kids is easy and super fun for kids to make. The best part about this Halloween craft idea it’s easy to make and only takes 3 supplies, which also makes this salt ghost Halloween craft cheap too!
This Halloween craft idea is super easy for kids and adults to make. If your kids are under the age of 5, you may want to the glue part, but your kids should be able to add the salt (which is the best part I think). If your kids are 6 and up, they will be able to draw their own salt ghost with the Elmer’s glue.
Tips To Make Your Salt Ghosts Even Better
There is no right or wrong way to draw the salt ghosts with the glue, just have fun with it. When you add the salt, make sure to tell your kids that they should add the salt lightly – just sprinkle it on. If you are familiar with using glitter, you don’t have to shake off the salt like you do with glitter.
You’ll just want to shake it around on your page and most of the salt will absorb into your glue. Which is great because then you don’t feel like you are wasting any of it.
Keep in mind, if you spill the salt on the floor it’s super easy to sweep up – so let your kids have fun and enjoy the process of making their salt ghosts – even if they tend to make a mess.
Let your salt ghost dry completely before hanging up – this may take a few hours. Once it’s completely dry, then gently shake off any excess salt – there should not be too much left over, but there will most likely be some that falls off.

Other Ways to Use This Salt Ghost Halloween Craft
This Halloween craft is also great to do at home during the week of Halloween if you are looking for some fun and easy activities to do with your kids after nap time. Let your kids make a few different ones on different colors of paper – like black, purple, lime green, and black.
Supplies Needed for Salt Ghost Halloween Craft
All you need are 3 very basic supplies for this salt ghost Halloween craft idea. You’ll need black construction paper, salt, and Elmer’s liquid glue. This is not a good time to use a glue stick – you really want liquid glue for this craft. You can even try liquid glitter glue if you want!
Optionally, you can also use other colors of construction paper, it doesn’t have to be black. It’s up to you. Black works well for Halloween, but orange would be just as fun, or any color the kids you are helping make these Salt Ghosts want to use.
Or, you can use any color of paper you have on hand at home – my only caution is that white paper or lighter colored paper won’t work very well because the salt won’t stand out against it. Darker or brighter colored paper will work best for this craft.
Steps to make Salt Ghosts For Kids
Step #1: Paper
Give each child a sheet of black or colorful construction paper.
Step #2: Draw
Then give each child a bottle of liquid glue. Have them draw the outline of a ghost on their paper with the glue and draw 2 circles for eyes. Then fill in the ghost body with the glue as well but keep the circles for the eyes unfilled with glue.
Step #3: Salt
Next, give each child a little bowl or sauce cup filled with salt, and have them sprinkle the salt all over the glue on their page. If you’ve worked with glitter before, this is very similar to adding glitter to a craft project.
You add the glue first and then liberally sprinkle on the glitter to make it stick. You will be doing the same thing with the salt. Make sure to liberally sprinkle the salt on your ghost as well.
You will notice that your paper may look wet because of how much glue you will be using and because regular construction paper isn’t meant to have that much liquid on it. Not to worry, just take care when handling your ghost after you add all the salt.

Step #4: Shake
Let it dry in a warm place completely, then gently shake off any excess salt. Before sending it home with a child or before hanging it up, just make sure it’s fully dry. You can even let it dry in a warm sunny spot so it dries even faster if you need it to.
A Few Cautions To Consider
- Make sure you allow your ghost to dry completely before hanging up or sending home with a child or the salt and glue might drip right off the paper.
- You don’t have to only use black paper – you can use any color of paper you have on hand that is a bright, dark, or vibrant color. White or light paper will not show the white salt very well.
There you have it! A simple and easy Halloween craft you can do with your kids, or you can do at a kids Halloween party, or you can do at a class Halloween party. The best part about this Halloween craft is that it doesn’t require very many supplies which makes this craft fun and affordable!
