There are so many great books to read out there and I’ve compiled a list of my favorite books which are the best books to buy for busy moms, plus I’ll tell you why I enjoyed a few of them and if I’d recommend you read it too.
Over the years I’ve learned that reading is not just a hobby, it’s more like a sport. It takes practice and work and careful attention to detail to be enjoyed on a deep level. I don’t think most people think that reading takes practice, but it really does.
You don’t just decide to be a great reader one day, pick up a book, read a few paragraphs and then magically become an amazing reader. Wrong. Reading takes practice and a lot of times you don’t really enjoy it very much at the beginning.
I’ll teach you a new trick to finding the best books to buy for busy moms, and share a couple tips on how to truly enjoy reading, plus I’ll share my reading goal for the year and some of favorite books from last year.

Reading and Walking
I’ve liked reading since I was a child. I’m not fast at it, but I do enjoy it. In fact, I remember in middle school that I would take a book with me while I walked a mile to my aunt’s house to babysit my little cousins and I would read while I walked.
Now that I’m a mom, I love reading even more, especially when I can find a great list of the best books to buy for busy moms.
This was back in the day when no one had a cell phone. It makes me laugh now when I think about it, because how often do you see people walking down the street glued to their phones, not paying attention to where they are walking? I guess I had this figured out early, except I was reading!
Reading Trick
Just because I enjoyed reading, I wasn’t always good at it, and I struggled to find good books to read. Then one day, I learned a new trick, find other bloggers and influencers I liked and trusted and learn what they are reading.
Some of my favorite bloggers post lists of the books they are reading on GoodReads and this is like a goldmine. It’s hard to find authors that you will like, and hard to know how to find authors you would like.
It’s even harder to know where to start looking for books to read. Which is why I wanted to give you a best books for busy moms list. You can also find and follow me on GoodReads to see what I’m reading and discover books for yourself.
Why You Should Read
Dave Ramsey says, “The only difference between who you are today and who you will be in a year is the books you’ve read and the people you meet.”
When I heard this quote, I took it to heart, because I don’t want to be the same person year after year, and especially as a busy mom, I don’t want to get stuck in my mom to-do list and forget that I also have a list of the best books to buy for busy moms that I want to tackle.
I got to work and started reading. I was also challenged a few years ago by a business coach to read a list of books she recommended. This is where I started. I began reading and listening to books and 3 years later, it’s become a slight obsession.
How to Read Books For Free
Reading is one thing, but if you have been here awhile, you know I like to read books as cheaply as possible – free is even better. A couple years ago I discovered an app that works directly with your library card called Libby.
Libby lets you check out books and audiobooks digitally just like you checked them out from the library. You get a few weeks to read or listen to your book and then your loan goes back for the next person.
Read and Exercise at the Same Time
Libby has made it possible for me to listen to books for free and I’m so thankful for that! Once I learned that I love to listen to books while I run, my life literally changed.
I was ravenously devouring as many books on my best books to buy busy moms list as I could while I pounded out mile after mile, day by day. The days when I didn’t want to run, my books called to me.
If you’ve never tried exercising and listening to books at the same time, give is a try. You might find that it makes exercise a lot easier. I even like to listen to books while I clean my house and run errands, in the car on my way to pick up kids, etc.
You’d be amazed how easily you can find a few minutes here or a few minutes there to read in your busy daily life. It’s exactly how I was able to read 50 books last year.
What Books Are On Your Shelves?
I believe you can tell a lot about someone by the books on their shelves. Keep in mind, I like to read books that are all over the place. From Amish love stories, to WWII, to Holocaust non-fiction, to crime, business empowerment, historical novels, stories about women and their famous husbands, and biblical fiction.
Mostly, I love stories that have a strong moral message and have an uplifting message – especially books that point people to Jesus through stories of heartache and triumph – I like a lot of books. Here are the books on my bookshelf that I’d recommend you read.

Our family even enjoys listening to these 3 books on road trips.

The Theft of America’s Soul, Phil Robertson – Phil’s book moved my heart in such a powerful way, so much so that at the very last chapter, while I was in mid-run, I had to stop for a minute, wipe my tears and raise my hands openly to the sky to thank the Lord for such a powerful book filled with a deep message.
He tells his story of coming to Jesus and how he hopes to point people to Jesus, one person at a time in his own, long-bearded way. Truly, a fantastic book. To date, I’ve borrowed it from Libby 4 times, and it’s on my Books I’d Recommend that You Have Your Kids Read.
Fire Road, Kim Phuc Phan Thi – Fantastic book about the triumph of the human spirit.
