Love For All Things Birthday
I have a deep love for birthday parties. I’m not sure where it comes from, but I love my actual birthday about as much as I love to host them for my kids. There is just something great about having a special day where you are celebrated.
The only thing that can make that better is when you can host an awesome party that your kids love on a serious budget! One of my favorite things to do here at Frugal Fun Mom, is to help you pull off a great birthday party that your child will remember for years to come – on a frugal budget!
Cancelled Birthday?
Due to the pandemic, did you have to cancel your child’s birthday party? My kids were lucky, their birthdays are later in the year, so we didn’t have to cancel a spring birthday party like so many of our friends.
Because so many birthday parties got postponed, are you now trying to decide if you should still have that party that you had to cancel? Maybe you are trying to squeeze in that party before school starts?
Which means you also are probably trying to find easy ways to save money on kids birthday parties as well. I’ll bet you also feel like it needs to be extra amazing because their original birthday got cancelled?

10 Easy Ways to Save Money On Kids Birthday Parties
1. Host The Party At Home
One of the best ways you can save money is to host your party at your home. Fancy restaurants, kiddie gyms, zoos, indoor trampoline parks, etc all cost a fortune. Save the money, and host the party at your home.
2. Homemade Fun
Provide your own entertainment by planning your own games and activities. Make your own games with stuff you can find at your home. Looking on Pinterest is a great way to get ideas on games.
One of our favorite games is a donut eating contest. Simply hang small donuts from a string on a tree in your yard and watch the fun happen!
3. Snacks And Cake Only
Host the party during non-meal times and only serve light snacks and cake. You will save a lot of money by not having to feed a full meal to all your guests.
4. Small Guest List
Keep the guest list to just a handful, no more than 10 kids, is a great number. The fewer the guests, the less money needs to be spent on food, activities, and supplies.
5. No Goody Bags
Don’t give out goody bags full of cheap junk. Save the money and make the parting gift be something you created at the party. An example would be, if you are having a cupcake decorating party, guests go home with a few of the cupcakes they decorated.
6. Make Your Own Decorations
Make your own decorations. No need to make them extra complicated – just keep them simple, cute, and frugal. Always remember, kids don’t care about the decorations, they just want to have fun. Make a few decorative items, but save the money for the fun!
I like to make simple signs from clipart that I find on Google that match the theme. I print them out big and glue them to a piece of poster board and then hang them around the party room.
7. Make Digital Invitations
Save money on invitations by using Evite, or another electronic invitation service.

8. Bake Your Cake
Make your own cake instead of paying big fees to have it made by a fancy bakery. If the thought of making a cake is overwhelming, scale it down and make cupcakes instead.
No need to make them extra fancy. Just simple frosting and sprinkles and call it good!
9. Get Help From Friends
Enlist help from your friends to be the entertainment – such as a face painter or someone to dress up as a clown. You can even ask a friend that is good with baking to make your cake!
10. Shorten The Time
Keep the party short – 90 minutes – so you have less time to plan things to do, and less money you’ll need to spend on the activities.
Those are my top 10 easy ways to save money on kids birthday parties, for any child, at any age!
You can still plan an amazing party, that your child will love and remember for years to come, without breaking the bank. And during this pandemic, saving as much money as possible, but still finding time for fun, is a top priority!
